Rookie David Gruel won his first feature race on July 17th in the DDR # 50! Starting in the front row of the feature line-up, David took off on the green and led the race flag to flag. It turned out to be an exciting finish with Otto working his way through the pack and finishing a close second. (It appears that the # 50 confused some folks as to what team the car is a part of. In April we surprised David with the number that he has run with for his entire racing career.) Pat Lavery again turned in a solid performance finishing 4th in the #22 car. Although not that fond of the title “Mr. Consistent”, Pat is in the thick of the point chase! As we head into the home stretch we look forward to seeing what Pat and David have for the “$10,000.00 “ race and “Classic”.
On the “low” side of the weekend, Ed Hoefer, Bob’s dad, passed away Sunday morning after an illness of several months. Ed was a great supporter of the DDR team and was happy to learn that David had won on Saturday night. While there are many things that could be said about Ed, we’ll just narrow it down to “ he was a gentleman and great friend”.
